Painting project!

This is the one time I can successfully say I wish I would have begun this later. Why? Because then I could have made it work for the current AP assignment, too.
Anyway, the idea was supposed to be a bit more whimsical and all, but I think it went through alright. I was trying to recreate a black and white cartoon scene in the background behind me, and if you look at this piece in person it really does have that effect! You know, every time I draw realistically the head always seems too small to me. Same goes for here. Also, that weird spot on my face was really just supposed to be regular shade, so I might tweak that a bit. Other than that, and the fact I look angsty as heck, this might be an okay piece.

Also, in other news...
Shana seems to be okay with getting an artist alley table (at Naka-kon) with me, and I'd really like that. However, I've already expressed interest in making things for Mangacandy, so would it be rude to get a table then? I've been wanting have a table ever since middle school, it'd be a shame to graduate high school without ever even trying, in my opinion. Shana seems really enthused and willing to work just as hard as I will. This makes me really, really glad. I know that it all doesn't sounds very AP related, talking about stuff like this, but I plan on turning my artwork into tangible merchandise, and I feel that can really impress an admissions councilor, but maybe that's just me.

Another thing, I really wish I had a light box, it would make making these comic pages (for my concentration) much easier. I have had some progress with tweaking and editing what I've inked so far, though.

Okay, well...yeah.

I always found it hard to draw realistically, and my AP Watercolor teacher used to get angry at me.
I've tried really hard at realism, but it's just not for me. You should keep at it though~ This looks really good~

  2. Thanks!
Realistic stuff was a serious struggle for me at first...honestly, it still is. xD
I'm sorry your teacher got mad, though! They should have noted your effort, I think.

  3. I think the picture is really cute :3

But for the black & white cartoon effect, you should try leaving a lot more spots stark white for more contrast :o

  4. Very cool work! I quite enjoy some of the work you've posted so far :)

I know a couple of people who usually have their own artist alley table at cons. What kind of things were you hoping to make?

  5. Thanks, I think that's a good idea Ada! :D

And HSP, I was hoping to do simple things like stickers, cell phone straps, key chains, and magnets. I don't really think I can do more than that. Also, thank you! :3

  6. Are you selling art at AA? I heard little charms and buttons sell really well over all. Maybe you should try that.

  8. Thanks guys! I want a button machine, but I think I'm going to wait and see how I do this first time because of how much of an investment they are.
